While Samsung seems to be taking a breather just before the storm of launching its Galaxy S6 flagship worldwide, HTC seems to be still busy coming out with devices left and right, from all possible tiers. We just recently saw the appearance of the One E9+, ahead of the One E9 itself. And more than that, the "larger", though not really larger, sibling of the One M9 flagship is making a few rounds over the Internet again. And in the latest scoop, the One M9+ is said to sport a fingerprint scanner on what looks like a home button.
We saw a few leaked photos of the One M9pt or M9+ that sported what looked like a home button similar to that of Samsung's smartphones. This was a strange notion considering HTC's use of software navigation buttons. Apparently, appearances aren't the only things HTC's and Samsung's button shared. According to @upleaks, that isn't a home button at all but is a fingerprint scanner. Maybe the two even share the same component vendor in that case.
It's definitely a weird design, in that case. It will most likely confuse a lot of users who will mistake it for a home button. But where else would HTC put it? In the HTC One Max, perhaps the first to bear a fingerprint sensor, it was located beneath the rear camera. It was a position that perhaps proved a little too inconvenient. Besides, it would be two crowded now, as the One M9+ is expected to host two rear cameras, whose exact configuration is still unknown.
Of course, all of this is speculation based on leaks, so take it with a grain of salt. That said, the One M9+ is starting to shape up to be better than the One M9 in some aspects, with a larger screen but also with a larger QHD resolution and now with a fingerprint scanner in addition to dual cameras. Well, almost better, as the 2.2 GHz 64-bit MediaTek CPU might be a sore point for some.
