ZTE Grand S3 can be unlocked with an eye scan
BARCELONA - ZTE doesn't have an entirely new flagship at this year's Mobile World Congress, but the company added an interesting feature to its existing top smartphone, the ZTE Grand S3 — eye-based biometric authentication.
The solution ZTE is using is not new, either — it's actually EyeVerify's EyePrint ID, and it's not an iris scan. Instead, the EyePrint ID uses the device's camera to map the blood vessels in the whites of your eye, which, the company claims, is unique to every person, and doesn't change with age or stress.
For the user, the process should be fairly simple: Hold the phone up and look at it to unlock it — no password required. The setting up process, which was demoed to us by ZTE, involves looking at the phone's camera and following a green line moving up and down. It lasts about a minute, and it worked for us on the first try.
Those following the smartphone industry closely may remember that a similar feature was widely rumored to debut in Samsung's Galaxy S5, but it didn't happen — Samsung relied on fingerprint-scanning security instead.
Now, ZTE claims the Grand S3 is "one of the first smartphones in the world" to offer this solution. The company also plans to include the eye-scanning feature in future Grand series phones, as well as integrate it with mobile payment solutions and other apps.
Though the process of unlocking the phone with your eye is pretty simple, it's even easier to do it with a fingerprint. We spoke to Kan Yulun, ZTE's CEO of mobile for the EMEA and LATAM regions, and he told us the main advantage of eye-scanning tech is security. "It's possible to defeat fingerprint scanning, but the technology we use is much more secure, as it takes a video of your eyes, and turns into a detailed map. This cannot be replicated by using someone's photo," he said.
As for the rest of the Grand S3, it's a pretty powerful Android 4.4 device but little known outside of China, where it launched on Jan. 17, 2015. It sports a 5.5-inch, full HD screen, a 2.5GHz quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of memory (expandable with microSD cards) 16-megapixel back camera coupled with an 8-megapixel one on the front, and a 3,100mAh battery.
ZTE Grand S3 has a 16-megapixel camera on the back, but the eye scanning is done with the 8-megapixel one on the front.

ZTE Grand S3 with Eyeprint ID is currently available for purchase in China, priced at 2999 yuan ($479); it will be coming to the U.S. in 2015, but probably no sooner than Q4.

ZTE stämmer Huawei för patentintrång rörande mobilkamerateknik.

ZTE will unveil 'bezelless' Nubia Z9 on May 6.
Last month ZTE made the Nubia Z9 Max and Nubia Z9 Mini official, but not the Z9 proper. This odd situation won't last for long, though.
Today the Chinese company has announced that it will unveil the Nubia Z9 on May 6. What's more, the teaser for the launch seems to confirm that the device will come with 'bezelless' screen sides.
This design detail has been leaked before regarding the Nubia Z9, most recently just a few days ago, when we saw a couple of purported renders of the handset. They do indeed show a display that has virtually no lateral bezels, and seems to curve slightly at the sides, just like Samsung's Galaxy S6 edge (though the curve is much less pronounced in the Nubia Z9).
This same '2.5D' effect is also said to be present in Oppo's upcoming R7, so we may be witnessing the start of a trend here.
As for internals, the ZTE Nubia Z9 is expected to be a real flagship offering, pairing a QHD touchscreen with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 chipset and no less than 3GB of RAM (possibly even 4GB). The main camera could be a 21MP unit, while a fingerprint sensor may sit on the phone's back just below it.
Upcoming ZTE mid-ranger with fingerprint sensor leaks.
Press images of an upcoming ZTE mid-range smartphone made the rounds online. Sporting a plethora of different colors, the handset is expected to launch in China in the immediate future.
Rumored specs of the smartphone include chipset with octa-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, and 5” 1080p display. The camera is tipped to be a 13MP unit.
If the leaked images are to be believed, ZTE will also feature a fingerprint sensor. The latter is visible on the back of the device, below its camera.
A fingerprint sensor will surely help the upcoming ZTE mid-ranger stand out in its highly competitive segment. We will keep an eye out for more info on the smartphone going forward.

New ZTE Nubia Z9 pictures reveal a metal design with fingerprint sensor.
ZTE is all set to announce its premium ZTE Nubia Z series lineup at an event on March 26. Even though we are just a few days away from the official unveiling of these devices, new leaks are still coming in, revealing some interesting aspects about the device.
The latest leak from leaksfly reveals that the ZTE Nubia Z9 may have a different design than what we expected. A few days back, the same source leaked a series of pictures claiming to be of the Z9. That device had a similar design as the ZTE Nubia Z9 Max that the company showed off at MWC 2015. However, the latest pictures from leaksfly reveal a totally different design.
The edges are now smoother and the device looks like it may have taken some inspiration from Huawei’s metal Huawei Ascend Mate 7. This is actually a good thing since we all loved Mate 7’s premium design. However, the device in the pictures looks much more thinner and smaller. It is said that the phone will come with a 5-inch+ display, and the image with the iPhone 6 besides the Z9 kind of confirms this rumor. Interestingly, the same image also gives us an idea of the slimness of the device as its almost as thin as the iPhone 6. In fact, if we look closer, it may even be a tad thinner.
The back features a large sensor which is probably the rumored fingerprint sensor. On top, there is the camera unit and the LED flash besides it. At the middle lies the Nubia logo and around the bottom of the back is the speaker grill.
Coming to the front, the bezels are thin, but not as thin we saw in the previous images. The previous leak showed off an almost bezel-less display, but in this case, we can see the bezels clearly. The top portion, above the display is quite clean, however, the bottom part is thick, thanks to the physical capacitive buttons, instead of onscreen ones.
Overall, the device looks like its well built and premium. I personally like this one better than the ones leaked previously, but we are not quite sure which one is real for now.
As for the tech specs, the ZTE Nubia Z9 is expected to come with the fast Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB RAM, 16MP rear camera and 5.5-inch full HD 1080p display.
So, which design did you like? The previous one without any bezels + glass design or this one with thin bezels but with a premium metal body?

ZTE Nubia Z9 come with a tripod, 3 lenses and a metal frame!
Chinese companies are known to send out creative invitations for their product events and this time ZTE wowed its invite recipients by sending out heavy packages that not only contained the invite but a lot of other things which probably will turn out to be the accessories for the ZTE Nubia Z9 after its announced.
The package was almost the same as the one we saw before in leaked images. Inside, however was a big surprise! The package contains the the white colored invitation along with a number of other camera accessories. First you have the tripod as well as a metal frame for mounting (the smartphone?). Next up, there are three different camera lenses in the box, one fisheye, macro and 10x telephoto lens.
The invite clearly hints that the new ZTE Nubia Z9 will be a camera centric phone which may even accept accessories. We have already seen a glimpse of the capability of its rear shooter, thanks to a gif image posted by a famous actor in China. But it seems, we will have a lot more to talk about once the phone is officially announced in China on March 26.
So what do you think about this heavy invitation? Impressed?
ZTE Nubia Z9 pictures leaked.
It seems that the leaks about the upcoming ZTE Nubia Z9 won’t stop until the company officially announces it on March 26. Almost every day we are receiving images of the Z9 and today, leaksfly revealed some more alleged images of the device.
Interestingly, they are in line with what we saw a few days back. So it looks like the Mate 7 like device leaked yesterday is probably a different phone. This particular model seems to be using the dual glass + metal design as the Z9 Max. The metal frame in gold color particular looks very beautiful making the device all the more appealing.
Apart from the back, we also got to see the internals of the Z9. An image showed of the internal chassis and we can see the space for the round camera sensor too. Finally, the third image shows off the dual SIM card slots as well as MicroSD slots on the left side of the phone. Overall, it looks like the phone will turn out to be a well designed device.
We have already written a lot about the upcoming ZTE Nubia z9 flagship, so if you want to check out the possible specs and more pictures, you can go to this link.

ZTE to unveil bezel-less Nubia Z9.
According to South China Morning Post (SCMP), ZTE is slated to unveil a brand new edge-less smartphone at the end of the month. An invitation to a press launch is posted on ZTE's official Weibo page, showing a large number "9" along with the date March 26.
While ZTE has yet to officially reveal its new smartphone, some images purporting to be the new Nubia Z9 have surfaced online in recent weeks, showing surprisingly thin edges around the device’s screen. Pre-release speculation and leaks suggest that the new smartphone will most likely be a high-end device with a display of 5.5-inches or larger, a QHD or 2K (2560 x 1440) resolution screen and a bezel less display. The smartphone is expected to be powered by Qualcomm's 8 Core Snapdragon 810 chipset which supports 64-bit applications.
China's First Lady Peng Liyuan was seen with her Nubia Z5 mini at a soccer match in Germany in March last year. If Peng decides to stick with ZTE, she may have a bezel-less phone to dazzle the public soon.
As is also reported, ZTE has not yet confirmed any of the rumored physical design or hardware specifications of the Nubia Z9. There is also little details about pricing and availability of the Nubia phone, though the device is most likely to be initially available only in China.

Nubia Z9 will be unveiled in Beijing on March 26th.
ZTE haven’t quite managed to keep the flagship Nubia Z9 underwraps, the phone even managed to appear at MWC starring in a number of hands on photos. A launch event for the phone has now been announced so what can we expect.
Nubia, the flagship brand of ZTE, have announced that they plan to launch the Nubia Z9 at a launch event held in Beijing on 26th March 2015. We’ve already seen plenty of leaked spy photos of the Z9 showing a glass/alloy construction, a big update compared to the plastic body of the Z7, but is there anything else to expect.
Chances are that Nubia will be releasing 3 versions of the Z9, and that the leaked images we have posted so far only show the flagship model. We also expect Nubia to launch a budget Nubia Z9 Mini and also a Nubia Z9 Max with similar design, the same Nubia ROM but a lower price than the flagship phone.
It’s possible that Nubia will launch the Z9 with Android 5.0 Lollipop and we will see a Snapdragon 810 chip in their flagship, and possibly even high-end Mediatek chips in the lower priced phones. RAM should range from 2-3GB, and dual SIM support is a feature that we should see carried over from current phones.
Nubia had a stand a MWC this year, which might indicate that the online only brand could see a larger international launch this year too.
