1150=Samsung?

Tidsaspekten är otroligt viktig i sammanhanget när det kommer till att ta fram sannolikheten för att FPC kan ha landat Samsung Galaxy S6. En design-win tar i genomsnitt 7 månader - d.v.s. innan sensorerna sitter i en färdig produkt. Se sidan 22:

En design-win föregås alltid av en design-in, vilket förefaller logiskt då kunden först måste testa sensorn innan de beslutar sig för om de vill satsa på den, och först då blir det en design-win. Sensorn 1150 kan mycket väl ha blivit framtagen efter specifikationer ifrån Samsung. FPC har fört täta dialoger med samtliga smartphonetillverkare, enligt egen utsago.

Den ena avser FPC:s touchsensor FPC1150vilken kommer att användas som hemmaknapp i en tier 1-tillverkares flagskeppsmodell med planerad lansering under det första kvartalet 2015."

Nu känner vi alla redan till ovan information, men väldigt få verkar ta fasta på den i sin bedömning av sannolikheten för Samsung Galaxy S6. Istället så lutar man sina argument åt det som Rick Bergman CEO på Synaptics uttrycker. Rick Bergman kastar ur sig en hel del under sina webcast, och det är vid en tillbakablick inte alltid så begåvat om man ser till tidsaspekten på en design-win. Signaturen/skribenten MiPe beskriver de olika stegen vid produktion/massproduktion väldigt väl i tidigare inlägg på Fingerprints.club, samt här på Placera/Avanza. Jag kan bekräfta att Rick Bergman antydde massproduktion förkortat som MP under sin webcast i november, men han lutade åt att det var deras större sensor. Nu är den webcasten inte tillgänglig längre, men den var långt ifrån lika tydlig som den som kom den 29:e januari där han tydligt uttryckte att de var i massproduktion med sin area touch sensor. Det märkliga är att han inte var tydlig på den punkten vid sin webcast den 6:e januari. Vad skedde mellan den 6:e och 29:e januari? Fick de äntligen sin touch sensor att fungera tillräckligt bra med hjälp av algoritmer ifrån Precise Biometrics? Ok, vi konstaterar att Synaptics har sin första touch sensor klar och att den är sedan i mitten av januari i massproduktion. Nästa fråga som jag ställer mig är hur ställer den sig jämte specifikationerna ifrån sensorn 1150 ifrån FPC?

Är det Googles Nexus 6 som Rick Bergman syftar till, eller är det en smartphone tillhörande en annan galax?

"Mobile World Congress is an event where you will some solutions come out and we expect those to continue to ramp over the year."

Notera att det inte är "some products", eller "flagship phones" som nämns nu. 

"As we indicated in our last quarter call we are a little bit behind on the area touch sensors, but we had a couple of solutions that we are working on.

At this point both of those are in mass production and we feel real good about our overall competitiveness of our product line at this juncture. So any ground that we needed to make up we have now made up at this juncture and as people expect from Synaptics in that particular product segment we will quickly move ahead as well and be the leader and innovator there from a market share and technology prospective."

Question: In 2015 what ratio of sales will be swipe vs area touch particularly in the context of swipe being more competitive in 2015?

"We do see the area sensor you know coming in - for sure this year. We could reach a crossover point from a revenue standpoint at some point this year. I think from a unit standpoint there will still be more you know swipe based solutions this year, and, so again this is early adoption. Market is there - tons of opportunity. Getting things going here so."

"Well, for the September quarter we've talked about the mobile business and basically we're including the touch business and fingerprint at this point in time in that business. So, for both of the business -- for both of those businesses, we saw downward trajectory based upon our comments around the premium side at a market"

"Touchpads (securepad) expect to see it in some notebooks at the end of the year".

07:59 "We are playing a little bit of catch up on the area sensor, but we are catching up quickly. So we are in mass production now with that area sensor, and we expect as we go through calendar 15 to see a number of announcements."

Time: 24:00 "In terms of competition, in 2014 for example, Synaptics didn¿t have an area sensor. One of our competitors was shipping a product in the second half of the year. In so, they were a bit ahead of us. Obviously it was a big effort for us. Cause, we recognize area gonna eventually take the majority of the marketplace - over time. I think that we closed that gap at this juncture."

När jag lägger fram pusselbitarna på bordet så kommer jag fram till ett och samma svar, och det är att sensorn 1150 kommer att sitta i Samsung Galaxy S6.
